Step 1

Easy Wordpress Blog Backup

If you are like me and have setup multiple blogs on Wordpress I am sure you would love to have a way to do it with out all of the hassle of going and setting up all of the same settings on each new blog. Well there is a cool new tool that just came out from Data Systems Plus called The Blog Zapper . This new tool will make it super easy to setup blogs or clone your new blogs.

In order to use The Blog Zapper its pretty simple. The first thing you want to do is go to a fresh brand new install of your Wordpress Blog and do your standard setup. Delete all your default stuff you don't want (ie.. links, comments, about, ect...) Then you will want to add in all of you plug ins that you would normally install to your blog. Set the plug-ins up how you would normally set them up. Also setup your perma-links, your ping list and any other standard stuff you would add in.

Once you have everything all setup go over to The Blog Zapper and get yourself a copy of the program (it's $37 but what is your time worth? ) Now once you have this down load it and then open up your ftp client (the one I use is FileZilla) and upload the Zap.php script that you downloaded to your public_html file for your blog. Its a very small file should only take a second.

Once you have the file uploaded then what you want to do is go back to your web browser and type in (html://yourwebdomain.com/zap.php) There will be a link that says create backup (click the link) it takes a few seconds to backup. Then click the download backup file link. This will then download the file to your computer. This will create a zip file with all of your blog settings. After you download the file. Make sure you go back into your ftp client (FileZilla or whatever) and go back to the public_html folder and delete the script from your site there are 2 files one will be called the zap.php and the other is called test zap.php (this file is used to test to make sure your hosting company supports the script. The hosting company I use is Host Gator and its compatible with that)

Now that you have your files backed up your now ready to upload to any other blog you want to create. To do that all you have to do is login to your Cpanel and create a new MySQL Database for the new blog. Setup a new user for the blog and assign it to the blog.

Once you are done all that's left is to go back to your new website and type in the (http://yourdomainname.com/zap.php ) this will bring up the script. Then click the link that says "Install the Backup" here you will need to fill in the fields Domain: Yourdomainname ; Path: The path your site is at (important with sub-domains) then the Host field (for Host Gator enter LOCAL HOST) Then enter in the Database Name and then fill in the User-name and Password with the info you used when you setup the MySQL database. Click Install Backup and bam done you can click the link that says "view blog"

This tool is perfect whether your cloning a blog or moving it to another site. I have been searching all over the place to find a tool as good as The Blog Zapper like this that's affordable and this one really works great.
